What Is A Smile Makeover?
A smile makeover is not a single procedure. It is a treatment plan that may combine cosmetic and restorative options to change the colour, shape, size or alignment of your teeth. Depending on your goals, your plan may include:
- teeth whitening to lighten the natural shade
- porcelain or composite veneers to change shape and colour
- clear aligners to straighten crooked or crowded teeth
- crowns or implants to restore damaged or missing teeth
What Are Veneers?
Veneers are thin shells bonded to the front surface of the teeth. Porcelain veneers are made in a laboratory and resist staining well. Composite veneers are built up directly on the tooth using tooth-coloured resin, usually in one visit, and are simpler to repair. Both can cover chips, small gaps, discolouration or uneven edges.
Porcelain veneers usually require a thin layer of enamel to be removed first. This cannot be reversed, so our dentist will discuss it with you in detail before any treatment is agreed.
How Is A Smile Makeover Planned?
Planning begins with a consultation about what you would like to change. The dentist examines your teeth and gums and takes photographs and X-rays to guide the plan. Any decay or gum disease is treated first, since cosmetic work needs a healthy foundation. You will then receive a proposed sequence of treatment, so you can see how the steps fit together and how long the process may take.
What Results Can You Realistically Expect?
Cosmetic dentistry can make a visible difference, but every mouth is different. The final appearance depends on your natural teeth and on how well the restorations are looked after. Veneers and crowns may need replacing after a number of years, and good home care alongside regular check-ups helps protect the work that has been done.
