Anti-Wrinkle Injections

Frown lines and crow's feet often become more noticeable as the years pass, especially where the face moves the most. At Vredekloof Dental, anti-wrinkle injections are offered as a non-surgical option to soften these expression lines, in the same familiar setting where you already look after your teeth.

What Are Anti-Wrinkle Injections?

Anti-wrinkle injections, commonly known as Botox® or botulinum toxin injections, work by temporarily relaxing specific facial muscles. When these muscles contract less strongly, the skin above them creases less, helping to soften the appearance of dynamic wrinkles.

These are the lines that develop through repeated facial expressions, such as frowning, squinting or raising the eyebrows. Botulinum toxin is therefore generally used for expression-related lines rather than fine lines caused by sun damage, changes in skin texture or loss of facial volume.

Which Areas Can Be Treated?

Common treatment areas include the frown lines between the eyebrows and the crow's feet at the outer corners of the eyes. Injections into the jaw muscles may also be discussed for people who clench or grind their teeth, following an assessment.

What Happens At Your Appointment?

Your first visit includes a consultation about your concerns and your medical history. Treatment is not suitable for everyone, including people who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and the dentist will explain whether it is appropriate for you. If treatment goes ahead, a very fine needle is used to place small amounts into the target muscles. The appointment is usually short, and most people return to their normal day straight afterwards.

What Should You Expect Afterwards?

  • mild redness or small bumps at the injection sites usually fade within an hour or so
  • avoid rubbing the treated area or doing strenuous exercise for the rest of the day

The effect develops gradually over roughly one to two weeks. Results typically last around three to four months. After this, muscle movement returns, and treatment can be repeated if you wish. Results vary from person to person, and a follow-up visit gives you the chance to discuss any small adjustments.

Can It Be Combined With Dental Treatment?

Yes. Some patients pair injections with in-chair whitening ahead of a special occasion, while others include them as one part of a broader smile makeover, planning each step at a pace that suits them.
